Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (Blu-ray)
From producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Pearl Harbor) comes Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, the thrilling, high-seas adventure with a mysterious twist. The roguish yet charming Captain Jack Sparrow's (Johnny Depp) idyllic pirate life capsizes after his nemesis, the wily Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), steals his ship the Black Pearl, and later attacks the town of Port Royal, kidnapping the governor's beautiful daughter Elizabeth (Keira Knightley). In a gallant attempt to rescue her and recapture the Black Pearl, Elizabeth's childhood friend Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) joins forces with Jack. What Will doesn't know is that a cursed treasure has doomed Barbossa and his crew to live forever as the undead. Rich in suspense-filled adventure, sword-clashing action, mystery, humor, unforgettable characters and never-before-seen special effects, Pirates is a must-have epic on the grandest scale ever.

Pirates of the Caribbean belongs to Johnny Depp - moviemonger
There are few roles in which I like Johnny Depp, but every time he plays an off-beat character, I really enjoy his performance. The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is one such occasion. Here Depp stars as Jack Sparrow, the famous pirate captain of the Black Pearl. One of the best aspects of the film is Depp's walk. It completely dominates the film. There's also a clever, but predictable, way out of the situation that Jack ends up being thrust in (namely, how does one kill things that can't die). In general the movie is characterised by situations where at first Jack appears to be doing something stupid but in reality is doing something very smart. This leads to some comic relief. The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is surprisingly a good movie, much better than I expected. I highly recommend checking it out on the blu-ray.Superb - icedevilz2
One of the best 'blockbusters' of the 21st century. A rare movie to earn a load of cash and to actually be a good film, the first Pirates has spawned two further films in the trilogy (well, it was supposed to be one) plus one more out soon. None of what followed though could match the original. The now legendary Captain Jack Sparrow (and the equally awesome Barbossa) along with some solid acting by the other leads (before Knightley's 'range' began to wear thin - this was her first blockbuster)set the scene for a well-paced high seas adventure. There are some good naval battles (not talking Master and Commander good, but still) and some fun sword fights. Further, memorable lines (that would turn into repeat jokes) abound and there is the requisit dingy cast to everything. The film also looks and sounds superb on blu-ray, with the only blemish being that the animation is beginning to look a little old (this was 2003). One of the few blockbusters deserving of its hype, it is well worth the watch for those few yet to see it. It had been probably five years since I last saw the film and it hasn't lost its magic. Now I only hope the remaining two (which I have only seen in theatres) can still please and that the new one, sans Bloom and Knightly isn't just a money grab.A Pirates Life for me - hilkayaker
I LOVE this movie. I was so excited when this came out. Great acting, awesome swashbuckling scenes. Jack Sparrow is a great good and bad guy. Orlando bloom is great as William and Keira Knightly is good at her role too. Not as good as the guys, but I still like her. This was a fun story and definately one I watch over and over again!!
