Psych: Season 1
Fake psychic. Real detectives.
During his childhood, Shawn Spencer developed a remarkable talent for noticing the tiniest of details under the guidance of his policeman father. However, upon growing up he found it difficult to get a job and spends most of his time using his skill to give the police anonymous tips. However, the tips are so good that some cops become suspicious that he is involved with the crimes himself. To clear his name Shawn finally settles on a career: he pretends to be a psychic. No one really believes him, but he continues to be so helpful to the police that they keep calling him in on cases they can't solve. Shawn soon brings his childhood friend Gus into his scheme, and between their bantering they manage to solve every case they're presented with.

Shawn, one of the two leads, has an eidetic (photographic) memory and excellent problem solving skills. He pretends to be a psychic to take advantage of the local police departments budget for psychics. He and Gus, his best friend, end up forming a psychic detective agency.
Basically Psych is a silly and not very deep but it has it's charm. There's lots of old movie references, good physical humour and lots of witting banter. I also like that all of the clues are given to the viewers before the reveal.
Regrettably, Zip.ca doesn't have the pilot episode disc so even though they recommended the show to me it never shipped because of that missing disc. I assume this is why they don't have season 4 to 6 seeing that no one was renting the series.
I bought the series when it went on sale but you don't miss anything by skipping that pilot. Still it'd be nice not to have to buy season 5 myself. Hint hint Zip.ca.Breezy fun - eli_quincy
Psych is not necessarily a great show, but it's a lot of fun. Plots very rarely carry over from episode to episode and the murder that needs to be solved in each is typically treated with the utmost irreverence. But the two leads have great chemistry together and, at worst, the show is a pleasant distraction. The animated shorts included in the DVD are fun, too.Slapstick Comedy - verano
This slapstick duo offers an entertaining break from the monotonous stream of serious detective/judicial/csi shows we have been inundated with for the last ten years. The lead character has incredible perception skills, but pretends to be a psychic so as to be hired on as a psychic consultant with the local police.
