I like this person see is very good at playing the character of Miss Marple. Did like one other person to but cannot remember her name she was good too. I also got my mother watching them and she like both of Agatha Christie's series . Hope to see them all over the winter monthsUpdating Miss Marple - heart2heart
I have nothing but praise for the new Marple series starring the very charming Geraldine McEwan. Agatha Christie was a master of the puzzle plot, but she peopled her stories with stock characters. In many ways this worked well in her novels, but any television or film versions have tried to introduce more character development, with varying degrees of success. I like the fact that Miss Marple has been given a past; it makes the viewer wonder what more may be revealed about her in future episodes.
Nor am I a purist about the transfer of book to movie; they are very different media, and require that different elements of the story be emphasized. Christie left a lot unsaid in her stories; they reflected her times. Even her own life remains something of a mystery. But even though she kept her stories as proper as she was raised to be, she had a cool and discerning eye. And she was quite cold-blooded about the fate awaiting her murderers: let them hang. There was no agonizing about right and wrong, and no doubt in her mind about the fitness of the outcome.Better than Agatha Christie - Gaucho
Better than Agatha Christie!
I say this with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek, since this is "Agatha Christie's Marple". However, there is a lot of ciriticism towards this version of her elderly slueth in the fact that they change a lot of the stories, adding "modern elements" (EX. gay romance, PTSD for WW2, drug addiction, etc.).
These new elements are taxing, yet there are a lot of subplots newly added which, in my mind, only add to the stories. This series is no different, featuring a lot of great acting, layered plots, and good characterization. If you can put aside the Marple from the books, you are in for a real treat.
