Hard-Boiled (Lat sau san taam)
Violence as poetry, rendered by a master--brilliant and passionate, John Woo's Hard Boiled tells the story of jaded detective "Tequila" Yuen (played with controlled fury by Chow Yun-Fat). Woo's dizzying odyssey through the world of Hong Kong Triads, undercover agents, and frenzied police raids culminates unforgettably in the breathless hospital sequence. More than a cops-and-bad-guys story, Hard Boiled continually startles with its originality and dark humor.

I was told by a friend that this movie was the best action movie ever. Better than Die Hard, Replacement Kilers and so on. Towards the end, maybe as good as those movies!! In the beginning, the movie is slow to start. I was expecting action from start to finish. Maybe my expectation were too high. Overall good movie.A nearly perfect action film - Henry_the_5th
When I put on Hard Boiled I was expecting a top tier action film, along the lines of The Killer or any of the well regarded American action films of the last twenty years. However, what I found was, it surpassed almost any other film in its respective genre.
The direction and editing were fast and engaging, there were times where I couldn't do anything but admire the skills Woo exhibited. The film itself never dragged as many action films often do, the action sequences were paced well, and although its hard to consider anything so violent not gratuitous, it was relatively absent of pointlessness throughout.
It was simply a well executed action film, it had a few minor flaws, but it wasn't held down by a lot of the problems featured in the genre. From what I've seen its one of the best, if not the best action film out there. I only wish there were more of its caliber.Classic Asian Action Film - kav2001c
Anyone who doesnt like this film obviously isnt a fan of action movies. Features Chow Yun Fat as a cop who takes on viscious Hong Kong triad members in a dazzlingly complex fight scenes. Oh and remember while watching it, this is back in 1992, so most of these scenes are even more astonishing in that they actually do them, not just matrix style CGI special effects. If you havnt seen it rent it now.
