Transformers (HD DVD)
From director Michael Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg comes a thrilling battle between the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons. When their epic struggle comes to Earth, all that stands between the Decepticons and ultimate power is a clue held by young Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf). Unaware that he is mankind’s last chance for survival, Sam and Bumblebee, his robot disguised as a car, are in a heart-pounding race against an enemy unlike anything anyone has seen before. It’s the incredible, breath-taking film spectacular that USA Today says "will appeal to the kid in all of us."

Growing up with Hasbro transformers i was hesitant about watching this movie. It seems like all my favorite toys and books from childhood are being butchered from half fast movies and greedy hollywood big wigs. My biggest worry was it's acuraccy. Lucky Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg stayed close to it's orginal origins. Transformers the movie wasn't just another animation/ action thriller but also hilarious. It's a movie made for every adult who's a child at heart.Decent Effort, Poor Plotting - kav2001c
I really wasnt sure what to expect when I rented this. Id heard it was the greatest movie ever and the worst movie ever depending who had been doing the reviewing.
The truth falls somewhere in the middle and as such its still a solid 3 star film and worth a look.
The plot is totally nonsensical. Ill keep this free of spoilers but you should be able to see the plotting errors anyways. It starts out with Decepticons making multiple attempts to hack US military computers; I had assumed it was thier recon of US military hardware at the time. Cut to the Witwicky kid in school who starts telling everyone that his great grandfather went insane after seeing "something" buried in the ice.
So he meets Bumblebee (during a very funny scene at a used car lot) and then he gets attacked by the Decepticons (so BB gets reinforcements)
All of which is totally pointless because what his grandfather saw is no longer buried in the ice (its obviously been moved if it was in the US military's computers right) and even more nonsensical is the fact that even the Decepticons data is wrong because the secret item has never been seen by anyone (except a group who "doesnt exist"). Yet somehow (lucky for everyone) they manage to find the items and a big battle to save the world/end the world ensues (with casualties on both sides).
This film could have been better if plot made any kind of sense, if the humans had less screentime (bad enough the whole find Witwicky a gf plot, but the US army scenes are even more pointless), and if the new look Transformers hadnt been changed so much (Im just not a fan of the new look).
As a mecha movie though its still cool to watch, just try not to think about it too much. Some Good Effects But Otherwise A Horribly Written 2.5 Hours of Advertising - Parallax_Abstraction
First off, let's get the good things out of the way: This movie has some of the most spectacular computer animation ever put on film. The robot battles are spectacular and a sensory thrill to behold. That said, on to the bad which is just about everything else.
When you watch a Michael Bay film, you generally know ahead of time to check your brain at the door and just enjoy the craziness. Even having done that, this was still one of the worst overall movies I've ever seen. It all begins with one of the most amateurish, hack job, moronic scripts I've ever witnessed -- and I've seen Wing Commander and Dungeons & Dragons. Terrible dialogue, very lengthy filler scenes that attempt to pad out the movie with eye-squintingly bad comedy for reasons both unknown and unnecessary and a storyline that could have been told in well over an hour less time and still given the same level of information. All of the actors are either just plain bad or are well known talent (like Jon Voight) who are just giving ham-fisted performances of roles that didn't need them. Michael Bay is good at directing action sequences, not so much anything that involves actual acting.
Also, if you are a person who doesn't like paying to watch a movie only to be advertised at, this film will offend you. Apple, HP, Mountain Dew, Xbox 360, General Motors, Panasonic, eBay, Yahoo and The Strokes are just a few of the brands and products that are shoved in your face in nearly every scene and never in a subtle way. Paramount probably had this movie half paid for before a single ticket was sold.
All in all, this is a terrible film that should be avoided by everyone. That it did so well really worries me about the state of where movies are headed. If you want to see awesome CGI robot fights, rent this and watch those scenes but save yourself the pain of the rest of this. Better yet, watch the fights on YouTube and skip this entirely. Michael Bay needs to be stopped now.
