A Clockwork Orange (HD DVD)
Stomping, whomping, stealing, singing, tap-dancing, violating, Derby-topped teddy-boy hooligan Alex has his own way of having a good time. He has it at the tragic expense of others. Alex's journey from amoral punk to brainwashed proper citizen forms the dynamic arc of Stanley Kubrick's future-shook vision of Anthony Burgess's novel. Unforgettable images, startling musical counterpoints, the fascinating language used by Alex and his pals - Kubrick shapes them into a shattering whole. Hugely controversial when first released, A Clockwork Orange won the New York Film Critics Best Picture and Director honors and earned four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. The power of its art is such that it still entices, shocks, and holds us in its grasp.

A Kubrick Showpiece - c4th
If I wasn’t aware of this film’s cultural significance I probably would have stopped watching during its first half hour. I hung in and by the time it reached its end, I realized I had just watched a truly remarkable piece of cinema – a Kubrick showpiece.
In true Kubrick fashion, he gives detailed attention to every style element. The colours, sets, props, costumes, and music all contribute to the satire as much as the plot. Then there was the dialogue, the most unique dialogue I have ever heard. I was spellbound by the superfluous use of creative idioms used throughout the film, mainly in the protagonist’s narrative.
Kubrick shows us his vision of the crazy world we live in by exposing many of its ironies. I will not attempt to tell you what this movie is about beyond saying it is a satire on life. Discuss that among friends and you will probably get as many different responses as there are people in the room. They will agree on one thing though. It is timeless. It is as applicable today and will continue to be so in any conceivable future as it was in the seventies.
Will you like this movie or hate it? I have no idea. I just know you should see it once and then decide if you can avoid seeing it again.Classic - AntonF_MD
One of my favorite movies of ALL TIME! This is also a great novel by Anthony Burgess. A bunch of teens in a future defiantly dreamed up in the 70's, wreak havoc on society. Learning from their criminal mistakes. Recommend for sure. Stanley Kubrick's gem great on HDDVD!Lit-Nerd Classic! - AnnaK
Milk bars, ultraviolence, the old in-out - the futuristic teenage fantasy at it's best. Visually stunning, amazing sound track, thought-provoking concepts - the cliche's just don't cut it when you're talking about this classic. Watch the movie then read the book, or the other way around, it doesn't matter - they're both real horrorshow. Is it better for people to be free or to be good? Or maybe you don't care and you just like watching boobs before implants were invented...
