Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (Blu-ray)
Elizabeth, Will and the crew of the Pearl sail off the edge of the map (literally) with the help of mysterious Tia Dalma and the late Captain Barbossa who has been raised by the dead to save Captain Jack Sparrow . He has been condemned to the terrible fate of remaining in the void of Davey Jones' locker for eternity. But rescuing Jack isn't the real meat of this movie - Lord Cutler Beckett has control of the heart of Davey Jones, and with that he controls the sea. The nine pirate lords of the world must unite for a final stand against Beckett, Jones and the East India Trade company.

A fitting close to the first trilogy - icedevilz2
While the third and final film in the (first) trilogy did not do as well box office-wise (meaning it is only the 9th all time worldwide) as the middle film, I believe it is slightly superior. Of course, neither can compare with the original. The major problem with the third, like the second, is bloat. There are way too many unnecessary bits and this is the first time where I felt Jack getting on my nerves. Where the third film passes the second is that it is a return to naval battles (although they shy away from anything large). There is a lot less time spent on land, it seems, and this is a good thing. The supporting cast is bolstered by the return of Rush, which helps. Unfortunately, Knightley and Bloom are given more room here to overact, which doesn't help. The effects are for the most part outstanding, but again suffer at times, which really shouldn't be the case for a movie this expensive. I forgot how well the next film (the first of a new trilogy by most accounts) is actually setup at the end. In theatres I found the last minutes tacked-on (when the after-the-credits scene should have come first), but now knowing the next film is months away, it makes sense. Hopefully the fourth film can remove some of the bloat (unlikely) - it will also benefit from the removal of the two biggest acting liabilities on cast (and maybe Cruz will help). Again, if you liked the first film, you will at least tollerate the second and third. If you didn't, well then there is nothing here for you.Never shall they die - hilkayaker
Orlando Bloom makes a HOT pirate at the end of the movie!!! I really liked this movie. I was so disapointed with the second movie, but this one was WAY better!! I wasn't a big fan of the multiple Jack Sparow scenes, I thought they dragged on to long and were to wierd for me. But it didn't ruin the movie for me and I still loved it. Especially the maelstrom. If you like the pirate movies go for it!!Perfectly suited to Blu-ray - Superdave
The Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, taken as a saga, has the epic sweep and wild energy of the old time Hollywood pirate adventures. It's fun nonsense worthy of Robert Howard or H. Ryder Haggard, with deft comic timing, death-defying stunts and a literal boatload of roguish supporting characters. The final movie is an improvement over the second one, which I nonetheless enjoyed. Like any good adventure flick, this one takes the audience to places only imagined. The trailer hinted at this, showing previews of the Black Pearl making its way to end of the world and going over the edge! Although quite long at almost three hours, the viewer is taken to the end of our world and into the next, to Davy Jones' Locker, to the Singapore fortress of Asia's most dangerous pirate, to Shipwreck Cove and its town built entirely from the hulks of wrecked ships (!), to a final showdown with the British Navy at the edge of a maelstrom that threatens to sink both fleets. Money and technology were well used here to give color and flesh to what is essentially a very tall tale. A legend of the sea. A fish story. Blu-Ray takes great advantage of this, bringing out the high end effects with eye-popping clarity.
Some reviewers have complained that it is 'unrealistic'. Tosh. Realism is for weepy dramas.
The characters are sometimes dwarfed by the scale of things, but then again Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom are supposedly playing ordinary people following extraordinary destinies. And anyway, Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush can steal any scene, even one with a kraken in it. The script is a little thin, but at least workable and again an improvement over Pirates #2, albeit a slight one. Neither really has dialogue worthy of its sweeping story line.
The ending, BTW, is perfectly suited to such a legendary tale, bringing characters together and sending others on their way as the saga continues.
