Rob Zombie, meet Jason. - RobBC
With its juvenile script and dull performances, Rob Zombie’s pathetic lame-ass remake of the 1978 slasher classic is a complete travesty. The original film possessed a genuine creepiness thanks to some clever camerawork and a convincing performance from scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis. Zombie simply rips off some of Carpenter’s original ideas, throws in a few extra pages of puerile profanity and then pads things out with a superfluous subplot showing Michael Meyers’ experiences in the asylum. A cheap imitation poorly made.Huh... - filmgeek
I kida wish Rob Zombie had been given full creative license with this movie. The first half (where Zombie obviously got to do what he wanted) was very interesting. The second half (essentially a coles notes rehash of Carpenter's original film) seems a bit forced.
That being said, the re-imagining is worth the ride, even if it loses some steam near the end. The references to the original are fun, and the re-interpretations of the characters (especially Malcolm McDowals Dr. Loomis) are worth checking out.
Recommended (with some reservation).Better than Rob Zombie's previous "films" - sinic
There are two types of people it seems: Those that don't care about the original Halloween and those that are absolutely fanatical about the original. I was firmly in the first category. I watched it years ago and thought it was good, but nothing terribly special. This remake is on-par with the original, but has a better opening 1/2 hour and a much better ending.
I didn't care for Rob Zombie's previous "films" (if you can call them films). I thought they were amatur attempts at movie making that simply didn't work. This remake of Halloween however is a well directed homage to the original that I think will vault Rob Zombie into some big projects.
I like the fact that this movie did not devolve into the typical garbage that passes for a horror movie these days (Hostel I'm looking at you!) and instead goes for more of a suspense scare than a ultra violent one.
Overall, I though this remake was a nice take on the original and absolutely worth a watch ... and it doesn't matter if you're a hard core fan or casual horror movie watcher.
