Zodiac (Director's Cut)
Based on the actual case files of one of the most intriguing unsolved crimes in the nation’s history, Zodiac is a thriller from David Fincher, director of Se7en and Panic Room. As a serial killer terrifies the San Francisco Bay Area and taunts police with his ciphers and letters, investigators in four jurisdictions search for the murderer. The case will become an obsession for four men as their lives and careers are built and destroyed by the endless trail of clues.

This is a difficult movie to fit into a category effectively. It has great atmosphere and is a bit like No Country for Old Men in capturing recent past, but it doesn't have the riveting killer to follow. The Killer is more realistic and less dramatic--not even a good killer, leaving some victims alive--and we are not quite sure who he is most of the film The burden of the interest falls on a spectrum disorder cartoonist and a dandy dipsomaniac--both good actors (Gylenthal and Downey), but the script is a long cold case affair and it takes a real investment to see through. In the end, i think it is worth it to see S.F. through the years but don't expect to see a real contest between prey and investigator.decent dvd package - brothermoon
great movie! fincher is one of my favorite director's. the commentary track is killer, no pun intended. fincher captures the mood of the city while it was in the grip of a killier beautifully. robert downie jr is great and jake gyllenhall holds his own, with great supporting work from ruffalo. an all around well made film.Another Fincher Classic - AlanSmithee
Fincher’s Zodiac is a compelling drama. It follows the Zodiac killings in and around the San Francisco area during the late sixties and early seventies. While movies based on actual murders can devolve into slasher flicks or turn into whodunit investigation films, this movie is neither. While Fincher portrays the Zodiac killings early on in the movie he then focuses his energy on the various individuals who are tasked with catching the Zodiac or covering his story. At its most basic level the film deals with obsession and will leave the viewer asking when is enough, enough? This truly is a remarkable movie. Enjoy!!
