Good mythological film - Pumon
I have really enjoyed this movie and the sotry surrounding it. For those who enjoy mythology and storytelling will enjoy this movie. It is a little grotesque at times and also a little violent, but then again mythology always is. Acting is a little bit of a streach but worth a watchNot for the kids... - eoguy
Beowulf was made using the same technology used to make The Polar Express. The animation here is slightly improved, but the characters still move robotically and look fish eyed. As for the plot, this movie has little to do with the epic poem. That doesn't bother me at all. What bothers me is the nature of the changes. Beowulf, the noble hero of the poem, is reduced to a self-promoting egomaniac, a shameless liar, and an adulterer. Grendel, the once terrible monster, is reduced to a whiny pathetic creature---a sort of misunderstood youth from a broken home. After watching this in the theater, what I found most puzzling was the movie's PG-13 rating. The violence is intense and extremely graphic. There are arms being torn off and still beating hearts being ripped from chests. The nudity is "partial," but there is a lot of it. This DVD is the unrated "director's cut," and it is even more graphic. NOT FOR THE KIDS.
