John From Cincinnati: The Complete Series
Just north of the border, in the tired coastal town of Imperial Beach, CA, live three generations of Yosts: surfing royalty turned society misfits. The Yost's reign and reputation, once defined in the curl of a perfect wave, has been eroded by years of bad luck, addiction and hubris. But just as things are looking like they can't get worse, a stranger named John arrives - and the Yost's banal existence is lifted into something profound, miraculous and, possibly, universal.

It seems that no matter where you look, you can't find a review of this series without a mention of Deadwood. Yes, David Milch was a creator and writer on this show as he was on Deadwood. It seems that some viewers have such a huge hard-on for this guy's previous works that they can't see the utter crap that this series amounts to.
I was intrigued by the pilot. It was odd and quirky. The rest of the series goes downhill. Odd, quirkiness and incoherence does not make a series. Ask Lynch/Abrams or even Richard Kelly.
Avoid this. OR, watch it and prepare to be frustrated/stunned by the lack of any sort of direction this series has.Jesus, surfers and stick figures - rnhaas
This is an odd one. If you're a fan of Deadwood, then you should check this out. The dialogue is pretty much standard Milch. There are tons of great lines, as with his previous series, though it's hardly likely anyone would ever say them in real life. As far as I can figure, John is some kind of Jesus- or Angel-type figure. If that is true, then this is an interesting, if a little too oblique, look at what that kind of creature would indeed be like. It's got some great moments, but it clearly needed more time, and it was probably just too strange for its own good.hmmmmm - StrikerFerg
it's ok. i think they ended the series short. i think it had potential to be a good series, but nobody could figure out what was up with john. the story is about a family of washed-up surfing legends whose lives are changed when john shows up. john has no clue how to act in society and is really awkward. he's either an angel or an alien or something but it's never explained or even hinted at. anyways, i think the sow got canceled because no one got it. try it if you must, try not to waste your time
