This was a good enough movie and the children liked a lot. As soon as it was over, they wanted to watch it again. Please be aware, thgouh, that this is a PG movie, with some killing scenes that require explanation from parents to younger children. My son is 6 years old and had trouble with the scottish accent as well, so I had to make sure he understood why Crusoe was killing and angry. There are soldiers and WWII, people wanting to kill and fight, so be prepared to watch it with your children. It was a little bit darker and mature than I expected - which made it good to watch as a family. A good thing kids understand things only up to a certain level.
Enjoy!No complaints - Yehudi
There was no part of this movie that I would have changed or improved upon. A lovely story that teaches a young boy how to let go. As his relationship with Crusoe changes he begins to accept the fate of his father as well.
By the end of the movie he has matured enough to say good bye to that which he loves but cannot keep. Very nice way to teach youngsters that nothing last forever, pets and people move on or die and that is part of life.Good Walt Disney Fun. - Jeefster
But not really recommended for the really young set as the monster is a little too scary for them. It's one of those movies that can be enjoyed by anyone else from 6 to 96 with good acting, good settings, beautiful scenery, and great CGI.
I'm 50 and enjoyed it a lot, even though I'm a huge fan of sci-fi and super-actioners and all the new technology that goes along with them. I entered the theater with some trepidation as there were so many other wild choices that were available to me, but being with Motherbear on Valentine's Day I decided to go along with something a little more along her taste lines and was not at all disappointed. She's always right...and tells me this often. Sigh. When will I learn?
Rent it, you'll be happy you did. Become a kid for the night and enjoy the fantasy.
