Very Different Take - Movie_Man84
very different take on The Wizard of Oz I liked it a lot. it wasn't the fun musical that was previously portrayed it was dark and different and they changed a lot of the characters to be a little more realistic which was also something really different. Overall it was a great movie with a great cast defiantly worth a look.Surprisingly good with flaws - MovieOtaku
I saw the first part on Showcase a few months ago, but somehow managed to miss the other parts, so I rented it from Zip to watch the whole thing.
The writing and world they created is so much better and believable than I expected. The characters had some depth to them with development! Such a rare thing on TV these days.
The only flaws were:
The flashback scenes were pretty cheesy, and the first flashback at the end of Part One was so awful, I wondered how could they have let it through to the final product?
The actress playing Azkadellia is very nice to look at, but think how much better this would have been with someone who could ACT!
Other than those two flaws, the rest of the series was awesome. The not-so-subtle allegories of what the characters needed; the Tin Man's tragic story arc & redemption (Neal McDonough, "Band of Brothers"); the sad fate of Raw's people. The world was quite cleverly put together, and it resonates.
I may also be an unabashed Zoe Daschenelle fan. :-)Not a bad Show, but lacking - Shmoolix
I guess since I thought before I went into this one that is was going to be a mini series that would be boring and no elements of wizard of Oz. But may be because of that I was little more impress when I started to watch it. I thought it was pretty cool. Some elements though were lacking. For instance Tin man was in a Tin Box and when he came out he was all Grey and looking like a hobo. Then a few minutes later is is clean shaven and as if nothing had ever happened. If I was in a tin box you would be weak and your voice wouldn't be working because you haven't talk to someone in so long. So things like that kind of made me twitch that the writer or director didn't take in account. But don't make that stop you from seeing it. I am always excited when someone make a dark remake of a happy classic movie or fairytale.
Oh and about the flying monkeys from her boobs. That's her chest boys. Her boobs are so high up from that corset that it looks like it. So don't give guys false hope in watching this to see some boobies.
