He United The States Of America
What our new nation was suffering attacks from both within and without, John Adams had a vision of a nation of liberty and justice for all. He guided his peers - General George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson - in setting the values and agenda for a glorious, free America. Adams and his wife Abigail refined these ambitious democratic ideals, and their partnership became one of the most moving love stories in American history.
John Adams, the Pulitzer Prize-winning book from Author David McCullough, is now the critically acclaimed seven-part miniseries from HBO Films - a sprawling, epic production from executive producers Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, two of the men who brought you the Emmy-award winning Band of Brothers.
Starring Academy Award nominees Paul Giamatti (Cinderella Man) and Laura Linney (The Savages) as John and Abigail Adams, directed by Emmy winner Tom Hooper (Elizabeth I) and adapted by Kirk Ellis and Michelle Ashford from McCullough's book, John Adams is the incredible saga of a man who dreamed a nation and watched it come true.

TOO MUCH FEMPROP - VINDICATOR
For those who don't know Masculist lingo, femprop is feminist propaganda.
Only watched the first disk because we hankered for a bit of Revolutionary patriotism and fervour: sadly, with the amount of 'air time' John Adams wife got in this first disk, it soured the rest of the play.
The effeminate (HOMO?) South Carolinian representative was also another sore spot. We do NOT believe that such public displays of poncery - or is that noncery? - would be allowed and promoted in Revolutionary America: Southern stateman or not.
Sure, the sets and costumes and battles felt 'real', but it's the CONTENT that is the real test of anything...especially a play about history! Get it right or don't do it at all. George Orwell was right: He who controls the present controls the past. He who controls the past controls the future.John Adams - Eddyline
This was a great historical piece for me. Unfortunately, friends and family couldn't stay with it passed the initial courtroom drama on Disc 1. It was well-worth staying with and the cast and acting was flaw-less.
Tom Wilkinson as Benjamin Franklin was particularly engaging and has made me want to see a historical treatment of Franklin's life specifically. Seems like there is lots of surprising stuff there - not just the whole kite-and-lightening-thing everyone seems to remember about old Ben.
This was an excellent series and not just for history buffs.John Adams - CrazyCatLady
As someone who thorougly enjoyed David McCollough's excellent biography of the second U.S President (on which this mini-series is based), I eagerly anticipated watching this award winning mini-series. I was not disappointed.
The attention to detail was excellent; strong performances from the cast. In short, this was very well made. Because I'd read the book and had my own visualization of the characters, at first I had a hard time seeing Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney as John and Abigail Adams, yet their performances captured the essence of this remarkable couple. I was especially impressed with the make-up as they aged.
If you like U.S. history, this is an excellent mini-series about one of the "unsung heroes" of the American Revolution and the struggles and triumphs he faced. This is definitely a story that needed to be told.
