Filled with flowery fairies, rhyming brownies and drooling goblins in pirate drag, all carrying the prerequisite Harry Potter-like names of course (Thimbletack, meet Hogsqueal) this is at best a lukewarm serving of the “children’s fantasy” genre. The CGI effects are passable, the acting less so, and a rather bland script keeps any sense of peril, or wonder, consistently dampened for the single-digit crowd. Not a total waste of time, but with the likes of Joan Plowright and Nick Nolte I expected so much more.Nice - Milena
I thought it's gonna be a movie for the whole family. All the refiews had implayed that. But I think it has some issues with the target and I realize what they were when I saw the bonus material. The story was for 10-12 years old, but back in 2001. So, now they are 17-18 and the movie has to be more scary, etc. It's not a kid's movie and it's definatelly not an adult one :) I watch it with my kids - 6 and 8, they liked it, but were a bit scared several times.
Other than this it's a cute story about magical creatures around us. Not very original plot about goblins, fairies and spirits, but it worthed watching for sure.Scary in a good way - amaryllis
Spiderwick Chronicles is a story that is beautiful, scary and suspensful. A family moves into a old house that is filled with many secrets. The secrets of all the magical creatures that live in the nearby forest have been recorded by a great-uncle...the Spiderwick Chronicles are both fascinating and dangerous. As the troubled son of the family discovers the secrets, he puts himself and the rest of his family in danger. The special effects are beautiful. The story is a little scary at times, but you're sitting on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens the whole time.
