Meerkat Manor: Season 1
Narrated by Sean Astin
This is a natural-born reality show with a wild difference! Starring the Whiskers, a clan of highly intelligent, totally irresponsible South African meerkats, this ground-breaking 13-part series uses state-of-the-art camera technology to chronicle every face of the group's astonishing and complex social lives. From snake attacks to gang warfare, from babysitting the "kids" to repelling ferocious predators, the never-before-seen behaviors and non-stop adventures of Meerkat Manor make this top-rated Animal Planet series the most addictive wildlife soap opera ever captured on film!

This is good, but no where as good as the British version which I've seen on animal planet. Sean Austin just doesn't do it justice. He's hooky and last feeling. Bill Nighy's voice is much better and easier to get lost in the story with. Once you get used to Sean Austin's voice you can start to enjoy the story, which is very entertaining. Can't we get the british version!?Part documentary, part soap opera, part reality television - purvis1359
"Meerkat Manor", a documentary drama series originally filmed for television, can best be described as a cross between documentary, soap-opera, and reality television. This series, which follows the Whiskers family of meerkats living in the Kalahari desert of Africa, is unlike many nature shows in that it applies human qualities and emotions to these extraordinary little creatures.
One of the more interesting, and sometimes disturbing, aspects of this series is the family dynamic. In some respects the Whiskers are very similar to any typical human family unit: caring for each other, working together, etc. On the other hand however, some aspects of this family dynamic would be unfathomable for any human family (for example, the threat of Flower killing her own daughter Tosca's childrens).
The cons of "Meerkat Manor"? The only one that comes to mind is the narration by Sean Astin, which at times can seem quite dry and uninteresting. Luckily, however, the content of this series compensates for the lack of interest and creativity in the series' narration.
