One of the Earliest and Best PI Shows - newdaysof
Cannon was one of the first private eye/detective TV series in a long string during the 70's: Kojak, Magnum PI, Columbo, Rockford Files, Longstreet, Banacek, Kolchak. But Cannon had a charm of its own due to William Conrad, the fat but loveable PI. The plot lines are engaging and keep you guessing, with plenty of twists and surprises.
The TV series is a virtual showcase of early 70's Hollywood actors and actresses. Each show takes place in a different location and is kind of like a travelogue of the US southwest. The show set the standard for the many PI shows to follow and still holds up well today.William Conrad As The P.I. Who Ruled Prime-Time - bwod
Years ago, William Conrad played Marshall Mat Dillon of Gunsmoke fame, on radio. When he was passed over for the part on the t.v. series, he managed to use his famous girth to an advantage in "Cannon". He played a private investigator who worked for an insurance company.
Using a combination of brains and brawn, a variety of cases are solved involving gangs, drugs, heists, and suspicious plane and other vehicle wrecks. Of course, murders crop up with regularity. Over-all I give this classic '70's series one firm thumb up.
