On the way to season 6 - Traveler25
Seriously the only reason why I feel the need to watch season five is so I understand the storyline when I finally get to the season where Kelly falls into a drug addiction. I remember that season so well but can't remember when it begins. Theissen is a good addition but lays it on a bit thick. And I believe Donna's personality atrophied in season 2.More soapy, less lessons - Cinephreak
Season 5 marks the end of the "lesson learned" format that launched BH90210 in the early seasons. While issues are still covered in this season (drug addiction, eating disorders, abuse, adultery), the focus is more on the soapy drama. New resident bad girl Valerie Malone (who replaces Brenda) is great at being ruthless, evil with a complete lack of morals and full of drama. Great entertainment and the series holds up after all of these years even though the rich kids of Beverly Hills don't even have cell phones yet.More of the same - amaryllis
Beverly Hills 90210 Season 5 is more of the same only better. It’s the first season without Brenda. Her replacement Valerie Malone, is one of the best bad girls on television. Unlike Brenda, she has no shame about her lack of morals, dishonesty or slutty behaviour. She rarely tries to justify her badness! She’s a joy to watch. She helps Dylan regain his fortune, underhandedly buys The Peach Pitt After Dark, fools around with Dylan, Steve and Ray, and puts the moves on Brandon. The other storylines in this season are: Dylan’s drug addiction,(he gives an excellent performance) his struggle to get clean, and his interest in past lives, Andrea’s crumbling marriage and her extra-marital affair, Kelly’s near death experience, her cult experience and her modelling career, Brandon’s life in student politics and his relationship with Kelly, David’s mother’s mental illnesses and Donna’s abusive boyfriend.
It’s the last season for Cindy and Jim Walsh. They leave to live in Hong Kong for Jim’s career. It’s also the last season for Andrea, who leaves with her husband and daughter to go to Yale.
