The Wire: Season 5
Read Between the Lines
In the projects. On the docks. In City Hall. In the schools. And now in the media. The places and faces have changed but the game remains the same. Times are tough for the detail. Mayor Carcetti has slashed the departments budget to the bone. Police are operating without overtime some without cars and radios. Angered McNulty is off the rails again and headed down a dangerous path of deception and lies that will ally him with an unscrupulous reporter. The drug trade still rules the corners all you have to do is read between the lines.

Endings are not easy - FromThessalon
I always cringe when I'm watching a show and it is time for it to end. Endings are the most difficult part of creating a story. A poorly executed ending never fails to leave a bad taste in my mouth about the whole show. (Battlestar Galactica's sudden assertion on the existence of "angels" just didn't wash with me.)
With the speed of this season and all the problems it had opened up, I was sure The Wire was headed for the same fate.
Surprise! It wasn't. The show writers took a lot of loose threads and tied them together. Stories came to a close naturally --- no sudden invention of new concepts. I had predicted the ending would be one big calamity as other seasons have been, but no, there is room for hope along with the inevitable message that "life and crime goes on" that this show has so deftly illustrated all along.
Brilliant ending to a brilliant show. This was no mean feat. The dozens of hours I put into watching The Wire paid off. I'm satisfied and thinking about it still.Sweet TV series - lacanian
We love the Wire: it has an extremely smart plot, good set, and strong storyline. Characters are also very good. It is one of our favorite TV series and comparable in quality to Foyle's War, Lost, and Battlestar Gallactica. This season is as good as any of the other series.Great show had to end somehow - ronburgundy
It's debatable whether the last season lived up to the level of previous seasons. Adding the dimension of the media was an interesting turn. Although, I'd agree with some that the plot lines were a bit thin and there was not much character development of the new faces. Nice to see McNulty return to a prominent role. However, the story line was a bit weak/far fetched. Disappointed in the direction of Omar's character. The show had to wrap up somehow and it left you wanting more -so there you have it.
