Another excelent adaptation of one P.D. James trillers.Roy Marsdem potrays the cool detatched investigator that Ms James has prefected. Susanna York is excellent as the over compasenate, confused heroin. Gema Jones does an excellent job of potaying an overbarring protective sister.Complex and Compelling - BigTimeMovieFan
One of P.D. James`best mysteries is captured well here in this adaptation. Star turns by Julie Christie, and Gemma Jones offer beautifully nuanced performances and for those who have only seen the latter in her Cockney role as the `Duchess of Duke Street', this is a chance to hear her plummy vowels and crisp consonants of the "educated class." The plot is particularly complex and mixes the politics of nuclear energy production with current and long-past personal tragedy in ways that produce surprise after surprise. Keeping it all straight over 6 episodes is no easy feat but the acting really is superb and Roy Marsden, as Dalgleish, gives us his usual subtle and penetrating best.
