Invasion Of The Body Snatchers
Collector's Edition
Under cover of darkness, while an unsuspecting city sleeps, an alien life form begins to sow the seeds of unspeakable terror. Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Leonard Nimoy and Jeff Goldblum star in this shocking, "first-rate suspense thriller" (Newsday) that "literally chills the blood" (The Hollywood Reporter).
One by one the residents of San Francisco are becoming drone-like shadows of their former selves. As the phenomenon spreads, two Department of Health workers, Matthew (Sutherland) and Elizabeth (Adams), uncover the horrifying truth: Mysterious pods are cloning humans - and destroying the originals! The unworldly invasion grows stronger with each passing minute, hurling Matthew and Elizabeth into a desperate race to save not only their own lives, but the future of the entire human race.

I had seen snippets and spoofs of this show so have always been interested in seeing it whole. Once we joined Zip, it seemed the perfect opportunity and it didn't disappoint. I was expecting cheesy effects but everything about the film just worked. I guess a truly terrifying concept, decent acting, and fast paced storyline can hold up over timeWonderfully creepy ending - eyewitness
A real science-fiction gem. ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers’ is a classic that absolutely terrified me as a child and still holds up after over 30 years. A very well done, scary as hell and thrilling flick with great acting, a sense of conspiracy and a creepy and haunting ending that is completely unexpected. This is one of the best and rare examples where a remake actually surpasses the original ala John Carpenter's 'The Thing'. Note: it is the ending in particular that makes this updated remake far surpass the 1956 version!
There are certain things in the film that suggest dark humour, for example whenever you see the garbage truck, you know another person has been "replaced". If you listen carefully, you sometimes hear that alien shriek among the everyday noises of traffic and city crowds. Rather than scaring you with a ton of overt special effects this movie chills you with small things like the memorable and disquieting repeated presence of red garbage trucks that arrive at odd hours to pick up human remains for disposal.
This picture has an excellent cast that includes stellar performances by the perfectly paranoid Jeff Goldblum and Leonard “Mr Spock” Nimoy as a celebrated psychiatrist. Nimoy plays his character so calmly that the viewer can't be certain whether he is human or an emotionless reproduction. In my opinion ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers’ is a horror masterpiece.Stands the test of time - MalcolmM
I remember enjoying watching this movie when it first came out. The recent release of yet another remake reminded me of how much I enjoyed this version.
Despite the age of the movie, it definitely stands the test of time. I'm not a Donald Sutherland fan, but he was pretty good. Even the special effects weren't that bad, probably because they weren't that ambitious. Definitely worth a rental.
