Loved this one.....wasn't really a fan of comic book movie remakes but this one was a BIG surprise....Robert Downey Jr plays Tony Stark perfectly and I am anxiously awaiting the sequel with baited breath.....Usually not a fan of Ms Paltrow but her portrayal of Pepper Potts was quite good & the chemistry between her & Mr Downey Jr was a good fit....Pretty good action flick - nobbymcdobby
I liked it okay. It is exactly what you'd expect from one of these big-budget comic book-inspired blockbusters. Plot: lame. Things blowing up factor: high. Overall decent mindless enjoyment. Definitely mindless, though. I guess it was less good than that Batman one everyone liked with that car with the giant tires. Now this is how you make a superhero movie. - clauditorium
Now this is how you make a superhero movie. It's not an easy thing. You want to give viewers a dose of action, but you don't want it to overwhelm the story. You're showing viewers a fantasy, yet you want them to be invested. In that sense, Iron Man reminds me a lot of Batman Begins and (to a lesser extent) Unbreakable, especially in the way all three manage the trick of making the central character's transformation believable (as much as this is possible when it comes to superheroes). In this case, they couldn't have picked a better actor for the part than Robert Downey Jr. He brings the exact amounts of wit and gravitas the role of Tony Stark requires.
It's also very tricky to have a character redeem himself without becoming a bore (good luck, Hancock), something else Iron Man manages to accomplish. Like many Hollywood blockbusters, this one seems to have been written by committee (four screenwriters are credited), but the produced script is much smarter than average. The story unspools smoothly, and held me from beginning to end.
