Bursting with vibrant colour and gravity-defying, pure-fantasy car races, Speed Racer on blu-ray is a visual tour de force. Bring your friends over to showoff the beauty of the 1080p HD picture. Laugh at the hilarious hijinx of Sprittle and his pet chimp or the muscle-power of Pops (John Goodman). Swoon over the super cute Christian Ricci as Trixie. See the classic anime come to life!Nice SFX - Dragon
Good movie for visuals. I rented this one on blu ray and was not disappointed by the stunning special effects. On 1080p on a big lcd this looks great. This movie could have had a better storyline and plot in my opinion. Especially since this was done by the guys who did the Matrix i was expecting much more. I was hoping for a creative story like the Matrix but was disappointed. Despite the plot not being to complex, the visuals made up for it. Great action scenes.Mmm Pretty Colours - icedevilz
Some thoughts:
- This movie is first and foremost a family movie and it doesn't try to be anything more. That being said, anybody looking for a visual treat will enjoy this move - just don't expect the story to blow you away.
- This should be watched in hi-def. If you don't own a blu-ray player, watch it somewhere that has one - this is one of the few movies I can think of that looses something by not being watched in hi-def (Transformers also comes to mind).
- The 60s camp of the movie is just right, although there is some truly shoddy acting to be found.
- So, again, this isn't a movie remarkable for anything more than its visuals, but they are enough to make this a must watch (once). If you have a blu-ray player, invite all hi-def skeptics you know over and watch them be converted ;)
