When I was a kid this movie frighten me, but in 2005 Amy Lee remade the classic 'Sally Song' and it triggered me to review Tim Burtons classic.
The saying "hate is inspired by fear", was the exact reason I disregard The Nightmare Before Chrismas. But now an adult I enjoy the whimsical creations of Tim burtons work, this is possibly the best, with his Batman movies coming in a close 2nd place. In addition Danny Elfmans early work as the composer and voice of Jake gives me chills of excitement. Elfman is rare to grace us with his vocals but is now 1 of Hollywoods saught after soundtrack composers for blockbusters and TV biggest shows (desperate housewives & simpsons theme). Burton has 2 talents: 1. Having a nack for making people famous and 2. Being true to his own style of directing.Classic Burton - FilmJunkie
Tim Burton's triumph of stop-motion animaton (forget 'Corpse Bride') is this lovely musical celebrating the darkness in Christmas and the lightness in Halloween.
Either you love Burton's gothed out aesthetic or you don't. If you do, this is as creepy as anything he has done, but it also has singing.
Personally, I think it is a classic that still resonates for kids of all ages, without being preachy like so many 'family' movies.
Just dark enough.Nightmare a hit with animation and musical fan alike - TheShamus
I noticed that Tim Burton's, "The Nightmare Before Christmas" was being re-released in 3-D and I thought it would be worth reviewing the film once again.
"The Nightmare Before Christmas" is a stop-motion animated feature involving the exploits of Jack Skellington. Skellington is from "Halloween" and beleives that Christmas could be improved if the kids were scared by their presents. The film curiously plays as a musical ... with music number scored by Danny Elfman.
The story is a little thin, and moves a little slowly at times -- however, fans of the music and the annimation will overlook this shortcoming.
For me, this is the type of feature you can watch over and over again (I personally own this one from VHS days) --- but I would consider returning to the theatre to view this movie in 3D. After all, it is a film which plays well on the big screen.
All in all ... an enjoyable experience ... but there will be a substantial segment of the population who are not interested in musicals and/or annimation would will be better entertained elsewhere.
