Hellboy 2: The Golden Army
Believe it or not... he's the good guy.
From Guillermo Del Toro, the visionary director of Pan's Labyrinth.
After an ancient truce existing between humankind and the invisible realm of the fantastic is broken, hell on Earth is ready to erupt. A ruthless leader who treads the world above and the one below defies his bloodline and awakens an unstoppable army of creatures. Now, it's up to the planet's toughest, roughest superhero to battle the merciless dictator and his marauders. He may be red. He may be horned. He may be misunderstood. But when you need the job done right, it's time to call in Hellboy (Ron Perlman).
Along with his expanding team in the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development - pyrokinetic girlfriend Liz (Selma Blair), aquatic empath Abe (Doug Jones) and protoplasmic mystic Johann - the BPRD will travel between the surface strata and the unseen magical one, where creatures of fantasy become corporeal. And Hellboy, a creature of two worlds who's accepted by neither, must choose between the life he knows and an unknown destiny that beckons him.

While I love the work of Guillermo, I just didn't feel like he was the right fit for this movie. Yes it was an ok movie and having him as director certainly in itself didn't make it worse, but it just felt that part of the movie went too far down the Guillermo road. At times it felt like a square peg / round hole situation. Having said that, it was, of course, very visually impressive and a good story which saved this movie as an average effort.Visually amazing - eli_quincy
"Hellboy 2: The Golden Army" is a visual feast. The creatures, environments and action sequences all look resplendent, and it's one of those films where it's tempting to just sink in and admire the scenery. Fortunately, the script and story are more than adequate accompaniment to all the eye candy -- in fact, "Hellboy 2" is better than its predecessor in pretty much every way.A Cross Between a 5 star and a 3 star - KevinJaques
Visually, it's a 5 star. It's saturated with detail, gorgeously laid out and lit, and everything you see has this surreal creative style. The Spanish Director, Guillermo Del Toro, also did Pan's Labyrinth. The bonus features reveal him to be surprisingly young and pudgy. I was imagining a sort of Salvador Dali fellow.
The plot and the acting and the dialogue are 3 star. They're solid, but nothing special, aimed a little low, creating little emotional and no intellectual effect. It's like a joke that earns a polite chuckle.
