When you watch Colombo and his tactics of solving the crime when you already saw who did it the mystery of how he comes to the conclusion of how good a detective he really is and the way he resorts to tricking the bad guy into a confession of the crime."Columbo Cries Wolf" - ToxorAxiom
I have to admit, I've found the later revived 90s series of "Columbo" to be a bit lacking in comparison to the early originals of the 70s, but, oh boy, was this a good episode. So good, in fact, that I'd to point a few things out about it.
The story concerns Sean and Dian, partners of a hugely successful Maxim-type magazine called, "Bachelor's World." Sick of his affairs with models for many years, Dian tells Sean she is leaving the company and selling her shares to an overseas millionaire who would, in turn, have complete control over the company. When she leaves for Britain to sell her shares, she turns up missing overnight, and in comes Columbo to figure things out.
Like many of the old 70s episodes, this one is representative of the time period... but this one seems even more so. It opens with the song, "Drive Me Crazy" by Fine Young Cannibals, and then drags your eyes through a picture of early 90s decadence among the "Nymphs," muscle-clad men, and clothing styles of this Playboy-like mansion. It will surely make you cringe no matter how tempting it may seem to you underneath the period of the picture.
Given some time, you'll be following Columbo and figuring out the facts of the case. But what's really surprising is how much depth this story brings within its aural/visual confines of all-style-and-no-substance. I know this sounds vague, but I really don't wanna spoil the enjoyment you will get out of it. Believe me, this is a disc worth zipping for this episode alone, and they even throw in another episode on the same disc. Bonus!
