Donnie Darko (Director's Cut) [Blu-ray]
Includes Both the Theatrical Version and the Director's Cut.
In this edgy, psychological thriller, Jake Gyllenhaal leads a star-filed cast (including Drew Barrymore, Noah Wyle, Jena Malone, Patrick Swayze and Mary McDonnell) as a delusional high school student visited by a demonic rabbit with eerie visions of the past.... and deadly predictions of the future.

I Prefer the Directors Cut - Fritz_Gerlich
Most people don't like the directors cut of the film. Personally, I prefer it. The movie is less mysterious and bizarre than the theatrical release, and that allowed the character to be more real and engaging to me. I could concentrate more on the dialog and acting because I wasn't trying to figure out what the heck was going on. But it is a highly personal thing as to which version someone likes better so it is impossible to say which one a person should watch first if they have not seen the movie. I guess I'd recommend the theatrical version if you like bizzare movies, and the director's cut if you prefer character driven movies. What did I just Watch?? - CleverYoda
Don't expect to understand the plot...just sit back and enjoy the performances, the characters and the cinematography. When the film ended I had no idea what Donnie had experienced, but none of that mattered as the film just draws you into his world and the people around him.
The voice of the rabbit in surround sound was one of the creepiest experiences I have had in a while. If Richard Kelly (Director) was inspired by the film Harvey (1950) he sure left his mark on it!Wonderfully Inventive Movie - c4th
Donnie Darko is a wonderfully inventive movie far less dark and ominous than its title, cover art, and jacket descriptions seem to imply. For the longest time I avoided it, mistakenly thinking it was something completely off the wall. It is definitely different but only because it is full of imagination, stimulating to the mind and surpasses all of its competition on the entertainment scale.
Donnie Darko is a journey of discovery best experienced untainted by any previous exposure to trailers or spoiling reviews. One watches this movie with the overwhelming sense that every inclusion serves a purpose. It is not surprising to find yourself continually questioning why something is there or why it was shot as it was. You will cling to every detail waiting for the explanation. The beauty of this film is that when all is done, there is no singular explanation. The movie stays with you as you take your interpretation through countless reconstructions and refinements.
The director's cut contains additions and an altered musical score. I recommend the original version which reveals enough for the viewer to piece together a meaningful plot.
