Batman Returns
The Bat, the Cat, the Penguin
Gotham City faces two monstrous criminal menaces: the bizarre, sinister Penguin (Danny DeVito) and the slinky, mysterious Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer). Can Batman (Michael Keaton) battle two formidable foes at once? Especially when one wants to be mayor and the other is romantically attracted to Gotham's hero?

Batman Returns is the best of the 80s/90s Batman incarnations. Granted it isn't saying much given the ones not done by Tim Burton. However, it still holds up to today. The plot line is very well thought out, and the character development of Catwoman and Penguin are excellent.
While it is starting to show it's age (the Bat cave looks quite low tech!), it's still a great movie.Good Movie - sampid
You'll have to see! Batman Returns is just as good as the original Batman, despite the first one remaining the true classic, this one still takes you for a ride. And come on, I mean we've got Michelle in leather! Her classic moment of just meeting Batman and The Penguin "Meow" is classic! There are memorable characters, lines, and sets! You'll have a blast! Trust me!Burton at his gothic best - jabroni
Tim Burton is a visual master with a style all his own. I now this is nothing new to most people, but Batman Returns is Burton unleashed. This is not a Batman film, or a comic book film, this is gothic fantasy. A Grimm's brother fairy tale. With all the warts and unhappy endings.
After Batman, Burton had free reign to make whatever kind of film he wanted. This is it. At the time I saw the film in theater I hated it. It was so dark, and gruesome when it didn't need to be. After seeing it years later after time has passed I was suprised how much I enjoyed the film when I got older. This is not for children. In fact until The Dark Knight was released, this was by far the darkest of all the Batman films. These are adults acting and thinking like adults no matter how absurd their world is. Everyone knows it except Walkens character. It's about freaks and how they try to fit in but are always on the outside looking in. This is not about Batman's psyche or his personal mission of vengeance. He's another freak in Burton's world of freaks. He only looks normal.
Some have said Walken's character is unnecessary. But that's incorrect. He's a normal. Who pulls the strings on the freaks to hurt them. He's the real villian as he makes no attempt to help them and pushes them either forward or backwards at his leisure. The fact that he's a bussiness man instead of a politician hurts but the film is not perfect.
Penguin and Catwoman are most noticably victims or their surroundings, as is Batman, but he chooses his life of freakdom. They are not evil, although try to do evil. They are sympathetic characters. Their looks prevent us from connecting to them and thus we judge them as villians like the Joker.
This is Burton at his best visually. Gotham looks fantastic in the snow. The costumes and make-up are top notch as is the performances. This is the only previous Batman film to stand up to the test of time. Fantastic.
