The Original BBC Political Thriller
Sometimes you have to read between the lines.
Stephen Collins is an ambitious politician. Cal McAffrey is a well-respected investigative journalist and Stephen's ex-campaign manager. En route to work one morning, Stephen's research assistant mysteriously falls to her death on the London Underground. It's not long before revelations of their affair hit the headlines. Meanwhile a suspected teenage drug dealer is found shot dead. These (apparently unconnected) events expose a dangerous habit within modern government of dancing too closely with the corporate devil. Friendships are tested and lives are put on the line as an intricate web of lies unfolds.

This series is tremendously well-written, well-directed, well-acted -- entirely worth seeing. Very complex plot moves along efficiently (I can see why the director ended up doing Harry Potter movies); the story introduces new characters right up to the last episode, but weaves them all into the overall story.Great - nobbymcdobby
This represents the best of British television. So very awesome with all kinds of great UK accents, really well written and genuinely thrilling. I couldn't believe how great it was, especially after seeing the plodding, tedious and insipid remake of the same name starring Russell Crowe. What happened to that guy, he is really stinky now.Today's State - Woody2
This is an excellent series- gripping, addictive and lots of well known faces- if you watch BBC/ITV shows. Several are wll known from films- Bill Nighy, James McAvoy . The plot is complex and twisted- I shall not give any of it away. I advise you to watch this before the US remake. That is also good, but has been transplanted, and even Helen Mirren sounds American!
