The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Blu-ray)
The Criterion Collection
"I was born under unusual circumstances."
And so begins The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, adapted from the 1920s story by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards: a man, like any of us, who is unable to stop time. We follow his story, set in New Orleans from the end of World War I in 1918, into the 21st century, following his journey that is as unusual as any man's life can be.
Directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett with Taraji P. Henson, Tilda Swinton, Jason Flemyng, Elias Koteas and Julia Ormond, Benjamin Button is a grand tale of a not-so-ordinary man and the people and places he discovers along the way, the loves he finds, the joys of life and the sadness of death, and what lasts beyond time.

This is a beautiful movie about life and man is it booooring. It is tough to handle since it is directed by one of the most visually interesting directors working today. While the story is sweet and heartbreaking I have to admit to being really bored.
I also think that nothing actually takes place in the movie that requires the reversed aging premise. Nothing seems impacted by the unusual circumstances, which makes you wonder why the movie is expoloring them...besides visual effects.[Very] loosely based on Fitzgerald's short story - MovieBug
The movie really only uses the reverse-aging concept of F. Scott Fitzgerald's story. The events in Benjamin's movie life are pretty much a departure from the original tale. If you're expecting an adventure you may be disappointed - this is a love story.
All that said, it is still an entertaining movie. Someone other than Brad Pitt would have been better in the role, but Blanchette is good. And the effects and makeup of Benjamin's 'younger' actors (not played by Pitt) are excellent. You can see the likeness.
Don't compare it to the story. Just watch it as an entertaining movie. A little long, but I found it worth the time.Very good - DisposableHero
A very unique story that really got me thinking about life in ways I don't really pay much attention to. David Fincher delivers again, this time supported by incredible performances led by Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. You can't give praise to this movie without talking about the work of the visual and makeup artists. Such a phenomenal job in portraying the aging processes on the main characters. Those are Oscars that are well deserved. Most people seem to gripe at the length of the movie, and it does push three hours, but I don't think the story could have been told properly if it was any shorter.
