The Dana Carvey Show
Includes Dana Carvey, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Robert Smigel and more!
Saturday Night Live veteran Dana Carvey puts a wildly hilarious spin on politics pop culture in this mind-blowing but short-lived sketch comedy series. The Dana Carvey Show included the comedic talents of Steve Carell (The Office) and Stephen Colbert (The Colbert Report) before either was a household name. Robert Smigel (SNL, TV Funhouse) was the executive producer along with Carvey - and also appeared in the cast. The creative staff included Louis C.K., legendary writer-director Charlie Kaufman and Dino Stamatopoulos (Moral Orel) among others.
From the extraordinary pool of talent came some of TV's funniest moments. In addition to Carvey's legendary impressions and characters, Smigel introduced his now-famous "Ambiguously Gay Duo" on this show. Carvey and Carell had a running bit as two pranksters, and send-ups of The Beatles were consistently spot-on. Carvey's unmatched humor and talent attracted many surprise quests who made unexpected appearances in the episodes.
The Dana Carvey Show may have hit the airwaves "a moment too soon." Only eight episodes were made - and only seven of those were broadcast - before it was cancelled. Here you can see why the show has maintained an enthusiastic following among those lucky enough to have seen it in 1996.

I loved this show. I had little interest when it was on TV, but now, while I'm middle aged, it brightened my life and brought me joy. What a wonderful mix of laughter, hilarity, funny voices, silly faces and new characters. His irreverent humor made my day, laughing constantly at Dana's antics and wishing the show had lasted longer. I loved it.not quite as funny as i remembered - eli_quincy
I had remembered this being a hilarious little show, and it's certainly amusing. But as with many comedies that are 15 years or older, some of the material is a little dated. Still, worth watching for Carvey's talent and for early looks at Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert, both of whom are hilarious here. Worth watching, but adjust your expectations.Wild and Wacky - newdaysof
Dana Carvey carries on with his wild and wacky behaviour, inventing new characters along the way. Since it is a new show, it has an experimental feel, with a wide variety of short skits.
The show does not contain many of his classic characters, maybe because of copyright issues or maybe because he wants to create new ones. There is a short Church Lady skit and his Paul McCartney impressions are hilarious. A couple of the skits are in extremely poor taste, buy hey, it's comedy.
The show is also interesting because it includes other up and coming comedy actors of the time like Steve Carrol (40-Year-Old-Virgin and The Office). There are also a couple of appearances by SNL favourites like the now deceased Phil Hartman.
It is an oddball mix of comedy with lots of hits and misses, but overall, Dana Carvey is a comic genius and it is fun to watch him develop a new show with new characters.
