thirtysomething: Season 1
From the executive producers of My So-Called Life, the Emmy Award-winning television series finally comes to DVD.
In 1987 we were introduced to a group of couples, of friends... "thirtysomethings." A dream cast of characters that from the very first episode resonated with a nation of people who knew these people all too well. Michael and Hope Steadman the suburban "new-parent" poster children; Elliot and Nancy Weston a couple whose marriage is falling apart; Gary Shepard the perpetually "twenty something" thirtysomething; Melissa Steadman Michael's cousin and a struggling artist; and Ellyn Warren, the driven but restless career-chaser.
thirtysomething channeled the consciousness of baby boomers into a running commentary on what if really meant to be on the cusp of success and failure, marriage and divorce, adulthood and parenthood. Every week the show blurred the lines between television and film, drama and comedy, hard reality and twisted imagination.
At last, the experience comes to DVD with 21 original episodes restored from the original film elements.

Sombre drama - JayA
I used to love Thirtysomething when I was a twentysomething. Now I'm a fortysomething and I love it again, though I never really related to it (I guess I picked the wrong somethings). Great tone, dry and real, heavy on the drama, but quality writing throughout. I don't know if you have to relate to a drama in order for it to be great, but for me I never did. I enjoyed it for what it was, and what it was was a powerful and enjoyable drama.
