entertaining but self-indulgent and simplistic - clauditorium
Funny, consistently entertaining comedy/fantasy posing as drama with good special effects has a lot to keep you busy, but doesn’t measure up to its epic pretensions, what with “inspirational” music to bully your emotions. It remains emotionally uninvolving because of the jokey tone. Besides it lapses into silliness at times, and it’s self-indulgent for the last hour. By the end, it’s shamelessly pulling every string imaginable. Tom Hanks, though, is charming and convincing in the title role.Run Forest Run !!! - Joesmo9999
Tom Hanks plays the lovable simpleton whose life story, originally imagined in the novel of the same name by Winston Groom, is tracked in this modern day parable. Despite a lowly IQ of just 75, he breezes completely unfazed from one instance of remarkable good fortune to the next, becoming a college football star, a Vietnam war hero, a ping-pong champion, a shrimp boat captain, a cross-country runner and eventually an unaffected millionaire. It’s no wonder the film stretches well past the two-hour mark.
