Every man dies, not every man really lives.
Braveheart, Mel Gibson's richly detailed, Academy Award-winning saga of fierce combat, tender love and the will to risk it all for freedom, is now a digitally remastered, two-disc Special Collector's Edition DVD bursting with dynamic new special features. To start off, I'm really not a medial-movie lover. I hate those. But this movie is far beyond that. The battle scenes and the multiple twists are amazing. This movie is long, but really worth it. He won best picture, and it's not for nothing. You will be entertained.Freeeeeeedoooooom! - MovieProf
You can say what you want about Mel Gibson’s personal life, but hopefully that doesn’t cause people to lose respect for him as an actor and director. In the case of “Braveheart,” this is Gibson at his best.
“Braveheart” tells the story of the Scots who fought for their freedom in the late 13th and early 14th centuries against the oppressive Edward I of England (“The Longshanks”). Gibson plays the leader of the Scottish rebellion, the infamous William Wallace. When his wife Murron (Catherine McCormack) is murdered by an English lord, Wallace takes his bloody revenge on that lord and his soldiers. Soon, much of Scotland is up in arms and ready to join Wallace in their quest to rid their country of the dreaded English.
There are some strong performances in this film. Gibson is great as Wallace, but Patrick McGoohan as Longshanks is also excellent; so, too, is Sophie Marceau as the French Princess Isabelle. Angus Macfadyen as Robert the Bruce is also notable here. It is these and other strong performances that add to the film; “Braveheart” is not just a film about blood and guts: it’s a film that allows us access to characters—t heir thoughts, and their actions.
Filmed on location in Scotland and Ireland, and featuring some of the very best battle scenes ever staged for the cinema, this bloody three-hour epic is anything but dull. It was well-deserving of the Academy Award for Best Picture for 1995.One of the best of the best - saint_angrrr
This is one of the best and most moving, inspiring and well-rounded movies ever made. They did alter the actual history to make a better "movie" out of it, but I can forgive that when it is such a deep and moving story.
This movie has comedy, action, gore, love and betrayal and everything in between! All of this adds up to make an epic movie that surpasses even the likes of Spartacus and Ben Hur.
Its a pretty long movie, but I really didn't notice because I was into it so deeply. You will end up wondering why your eyes are burning at the end... was it because you couldnt keep them off thr TV for 3 hours, or were you choked up when he yells FREEEEEDOM!
