Overrated series in my opinion. Yes, I said that! - Silverthorn
I just rated this a 1 because I never got into Star Wars. It reminds me of that Battlefield Earth film that came out in 2000-ish that tried to emulate the over-the-top elements and characters of Star Wars. That film bombed significantly, but I guess for 1977, a film like that was new and different.
But if you look at the film from the outside, it looks and sounds quite ludicrous. I couldn't get into the story, the characters, and the special effects in the movie. I have watched the VHS and DVD a few times and can't understand the world's fascination with this film series.
I actually liked Star Wars Episode III as it showed how Darth Vader became who he was, lol.Perhaps the Best Sequel of All Time - MovieProf
“The Empire Strikes Back” is one terrific film in its own right, but the fact that it is such a strong sequel to the phenomenal “Star Wars” makes it that much better. The sequel reunites the audience with most of the major players from the original—with the exception of Peter Cushing as Grand Moff Tarkin (owing to his death in the destruction of the Death Star). Even Alec Guinness reprises his role as Ben Kenobi, via spirit form. We are also introduced to a few new and popular faces: Yoda, Boba Fett, and of course, Lando Calrissian.
This film builds on the storylines developed in the original film: Luke Skywalker continues his training as a Jedi warrior, Han Solo and Leia Organa finally give in to their passions for one another, and Darth Vader drops a bombshell, likely the climax of the film: he is Luke’s father. It is also directed by someone other than George Lucas: Lucas hired Irvin Kershner to take over direction, and Kershner does an admirable job.
Filmed on location in Norway and England, and featuring startlingly realistic special effects (especially for 1980), “Empire” remains extremely popular with fans and critics alike. In fact, many think this is the ultimate film in the series. You be the judge.like a fine-tuned version of the first film - clauditorium
Well-made, exciting and action-packed, with excellent special effects, this plays like a fine-tuned version of Star Wars: deeper, darker, richer, with a much sharper look and better gadgets.
Scenes dealing with the relationship between Luke and Darth Vader are powerful, including the thrilling climactic duel. James Earl Jones continues his awesome voice performance.
