Well, Betty's storyline is simply not that engaging. I feel like I am watching little house on the prairie at this point. If it was not for Draper and the possibility of a tryst with his daughters teacher this would be where I take a break. The office scenes also become stereotypical as the british of the british present themselves to the americans. Not so mad for Mad Men - cinecynic
Season One was fun. Season Two expanded into the social context. But Season Three seems to be all over the map. I watched the first six episodes and am taking a break because it's just not grabbing me like it used to.
The office scenario doesn't offer anything new; Don and Betty are in some kind of holding pattern; Peggy still doesn't get any respect from anyone (at home or at work); Joan is having a hard time with the new hubby, but we have no doubt she'll triumph in the end.
There seems to be a lack of real conflict this season. Too many of the storylines are simply about personal interplay--recognizable but not terribly illuminating. We need to see the characters acting out more, as we did early in the series.Back on Track. - cathyottawa
In a big way.
After a shaky second season, that had us spending much too much time in Don Draper's closet full of skeletons, Mad Men has come back with a powerful third season.
Draper no longer hogs the screen, and we get to spend more time with Peter, Joan, Peggy and Betty, who gets a lot of character development this season.
Don and Betty's children are also given more to do - we really start to get to know Sally.
This show has never been solely about an advertising firm - it's been a realistic look into the 60s, and this season we spend a lot of time outside the office, at home with the characters.
The final episode took us in surprising directions. It left me salivating for season four, and wondering where the story will go.
