Emma
Based on Jane Austen's comic masterpiece, as seen on the BBC
Beautiful, clever, and rich Emma Woodhouse is convinced she is good at matchmaking after her older sister and her governess both marry suitable husbands. No matter that as Mr. Knightley drily observes, in reality, she had nothing to do with these relationships. Yet Emma, certain of her talents, plays a dangerous game as she persuades her new friend, the young, pretty and socially inferior Harriet to reject an advantageous marriage proposal to a local farmer in favour of dashing Mr. Elton. So begins a story which challenges Emma's naivety, her social preconceptions and her relationship with Knightley. Fresh and funny, this perceptive adaptation, featuring a stellar cast, brings Jane Austen's comic masterpiece to life.

Pleasantly surprised. - Anti
This review is for Disc 1. I generally expect to be disappointed with the movie version of a Jane Austen book, but this was surprisingly well-done.
Even my husband really liked the movie -- wasn't too girly.
Of course it doesn't follow the book perfectly but I can't complain.Really well done! - CheeryCherry
Similar to the previous review, Emma has never been my favorite Austin. However, this particular version made me really enjoy the story. Costumes, music and locations were all really well chosen. It was picturesque to watch and the characters well developed. I highly recommend it!A Wonderful Adaption - bd--
I loved this adaption. Emma has never been one of my favourite Austen novels. Before watching this, I can honestly say that my preferred Emma adaption was probably Clueless, as no other had really grabbed me. This BBC Emma miniseries sparkles and is hands down the best I've seen.
The actors are all excellent, though the portrayals of Emma, her father Mr. Woodhouse and Mr. Knightley are the ones that stick out most clearly in my mind. I think this is the first time I've really felt for Emma and also connected with Jane Fairfax.
I'd have bought it already, but I'm holding out hope for a Blu-Ray edition.
Highly recommend!
