Awesome Disaster - ShawnConnery
For a 70's movie, the realism was surprising, and the actors and actresses were great. The story is captivating, the action, suspense, and twists breathtaking, and even the screenplay inspired. The music was ok, and while the acting was good by some of the main people (like Chamberlain and Newman), the acting by some of the extras and smaller characters was cheesy. Still, kept you watching through the whole 2 and a half hours.A Towering Success - MovieProf
I waited a long time to see "The Towering Inferno" in its entirety, and I can now say it is a wild, entertaining ride. At almost three hours, it has few slow moments, once the first fire starts burning (which is within the first fifteen minutes). The all-star cast here works well together. Of particular note are Richard Chamberlain as the weasel Roger Simmons, and Paul Newman as the building's architect, Doug Roberts. Newman is really the star of the film, although he receives co-top billing status alongside Steve McQueen. McQueen as fire chief O'Hallorhan doesn't make an appearance until some forty minutes in, which is why I see Newman as the true star of the film. The special effects are quite good, and hold up to a modern-day audience accustomed to computer simulation. I especially like the title of the film: the story is an amalgamation of two novels entitled "The Tower" and "The Glass Inferno." Pretty clever.
Watch out for O.J. Simpson as an employee of the ill-fated building who saves a cat's life in a rather poignant moment. How ironic.Burn Baby Burn - Chucky
All star cast notwithstanding, the plot and storyline flow together flawlessly to produce a movie that would be hard to beat in its class. The acting was superb, this goes without saying but Robert Wagner held one of the movie's most memorable rolls as he tries to reach help by crossing through a burning room which has hit flash over. The mid to late 1970's produced many excellent films of this quality and in my humble opinion, are timeless.
