Red Cliff (Chi bi)
Destiny Lies in the Wind
An epic historical drama based on a legendary 208 A.D. battle that heralded the end of the Han Dynasty. Red Cliff opens as power hungry Prime Minister-turned-General Cao Cao (Zhang Fengyi) seeks permission from the Han dynasty Emperor to organize a southward-bound mission designed to crush the two troublesome warlords who stand in his way, Liu Bei (You Yong) and Sun Quan (Chang Chen). As the expedition gets underway, Cao Cao's troops rain destruction on Liu Bei's army, forcing him into retreat. Liu Bei's military strategist Zhuge Liang (Takeshi Kaneshiro) knows that the rebels' only hope for survival is to form an alliance with rival warlord Sun Quan, and reaches out to Sun Quan's trusted advisor, war hero Zhou Yu (Tony Leung). Vastly outnumbered by Cao Cao's brutal, fast-approaching army, the warlords band together to mount a heroic campaign—unrivaled in history—that changes the face of China forever.

Tiresomely slow and confusing - Doom
Frankly, I was expecting a lot more from this film. It's INCREDIBLY slow. The cast of characters are pretty much indistinguishable, and their endless ruminations on philosophy, music and strategy grow pretty tedious pretty quickly.
That said, the two (TWO) battle scenes in the film's opening 2 and a half hours are pretty solid - though I find it difficult to believe that battles in medieval China were won on the basis of having 6 badass killing machines as your generals.Spectacular - Plet
A spectacular epic which has an end that is gaspingly marvelous. However, for me, all the battles and fight scenes became rather tedious and repetitive and the characters themselves apart from Cao Cao, the charismatic villain, uninteresting. However the end scenes of fire boats attacking a navy ranks high in my list of awe inspiring. I also found the special features detailing the troubles of filming worth while. All the shouting and chaos on the set with unexpected fires occurring, fort walls collapsing, and flooding rain was reminiscent of the film itself.Red Cliff - embrunceman
I give this film a five star review. The action is non stop. The actors were great. Never have I seen so many participants in a film. Once you start, I can guarantee that you will be glued to your TV set. The scenario was terrific. I do not know the director but he did a masterful job. It is another epic tale filled with heroes like the chinese can do so well. You have it all in this story (drama, action, love stories, betrayals, a little bit of magic and did I say action (lots of it). What else can I say, if you like this kind of movie, you will not be disappointed
