Red Cliff (Chi bi) [Blu-ray]
Destiny Lies in the Wind
An epic historical drama based on a legendary 208 A.D. battle that heralded the end of the Han Dynasty. Red Cliff opens as power hungry Prime Minister-turned-General Cao Cao (Zhang Fengyi) seeks permission from the Han dynasty Emperor to organize a southward-bound mission designed to crush the two troublesome warlords who stand in his way, Liu Bei (You Yong) and Sun Quan (Chang Chen). As the expedition gets underway, Cao Cao's troops rain destruction on Liu Bei's army, forcing him into retreat. Liu Bei's military strategist Zhuge Liang (Takeshi Kaneshiro) knows that the rebels' only hope for survival is to form an alliance with rival warlord Sun Quan, and reaches out to Sun Quan's trusted advisor, war hero Zhou Yu (Tony Leung). Vastly outnumbered by Cao Cao's brutal, fast-approaching army, the warlords band together to mount a heroic campaign—unrivaled in history—that changes the face of China forever.

Slow start but will quickly grab your attention towards the middle of part 1. A war movie with soul, not just about the combat scenes. The main characters are especially well interpreted. The bonus material on the making of the movie will help you appreciate the movie even more.Red Cliff, Red Hot, Woo's done it again - Emperor
It took John Woo 5 years to film this movie, and it does justice to the time and budget that Mr. Woo spent. Everything is highly detail oriented. The entire cast did a spetacular job and you just couldn't pick any flaws to this movie. Chinese History and Culture were for sure promoted throught this film. The only thing that is unfortunate is the subtitle for non-Chinese speaking audience. Some of the deep meaning might have been lost through translation. This is a must see epic. Best Chinese movie made for both the Western and Chinese audience.Woo strikes again - Canada123
This is a weird combination of gendres - modern action film with elements of the stock Chinese action flic - silly bits of action that look very fake intertwined with beautiful backgrounds and grand modern action type flics.
The combination works well sometimes and not so well other times - its too bad there was such a compromise - but maybe that is what Woo had to to get get the Chinese backing he needed
