Extras: The Extra Special Series Finale
Bloody Merry.
'Tis the season to be jaded, at least if you're Andy Millman (Ricky Gervais). Despite the success of his highly-rated (but critically panned) sitcom When the Whistle Blows, Andy can't help but wonder if true artistic respectability will ever come his way.
Andy decides to take drastic measures: he fires his loyal but useless agent Darren (Stephen Merchant); pulls the plug on his hit show and turns down roles he considers "beneath him." He even lashes out at his best friend Maggie (Ashley Jensen), who admires the small measure of fame that Andy has achieved.
It isn't long before Andy begins to wonder: is success really worth it? Can he have both respect and fame? And is a man truly the sum of his parts, no mater how small they might be?

One of the best of not only Extras, but Gervais's two series. Mind you, I'm a bit of a softie, and this finale's deft balancing of comedy and heartache gets to me every single bloody time. I rented it again just to remember how it had made me feel. Which was wonderful.Great ending for an excellent show - Mellymel
Really, what a perfect ending. Dark, angry and hilarious! Perfect Ricky Gervais.
From the opening complaints, to the scenes from his horrible TV show with catch-phrases aplenty, to the final scenes on Celebrity Big Brother, this show has TONS of laugh-out-loud moments. Really, the ending, when he and we realize that he is only happy as an unsuccessful extra, making fun of everyone and everything with his best friend, is a perfect tribute to this wonderful series.

A fitting ending to a lovely series. The best episode to date because it has been setup by the previous shows. Watch the earlier episodes and learn to squirm with Andy, then the conclusion is far more satisfying. The humour deepens a little and the drama increases, but the ending is well thought-out.
