PSI is a great concept for a TV series but it doesn't quite live up to it's potential.
Think of it as a paranormal version of CSI. Supposedly based on true events, a team of scientific investigators examines a wide variety of bizarre phenomenon - everything from possessed houses and possessed people to UFO abductions and apparant time travellers.
Instead of using the original people, they use actors to recreate the events and circumstances surrounding the phenomenon. Unfortunately, a lot of the dialogue is pretty lame and relies too much on techno-babble. The writers must have thought the more technical mumbo jumbo they used, the more credibility the characters would have, but it ends up sounding very unrealistic. I mean who really talks like that? Not even real scientists and technicians talk like that. They also rely too much on techno-gadgets: technicians in white lab coats pointing to big arrays of electronic equipment and waveforms on oscilloscopes. It starts to feel a bit like a scene from Flash Gordon. Oh yeah, and the lead investigator wears a ridiculous-looking headset with ear-piece and microphone throughout most of the show and it makes him look like a real dork.
The other problem I have with this series is that it claims to be based on actual events, but after a little digging on Wikipedia and Google, it turns out most if not all the stories in this series are fake - i.e. science fiction. How could a TV series trick it's audience into believing the stories are based on true events but in reality they are mostly faked? And really, most of the stories are so outrageous and physically impossible. Why do I want to waste my time watching this stuff?
