Noir: Volume 1 - Shades of Darkness
"Make a pilgrimage for the past with me."
Words on a computer screen.
A hauntingly familiar melody.
Those are the bait that propel professional hit woman Mireille Bouquet on an odyssey of death and vengeance, into the icy blackness of her own soul. There she will find Kirika Yumura, a young Japanese amnesiac whose killing skills are as Deadly as Mirielle's, and whose missing memory may unlock the mystery of Mirielle's own past. In uneasy partnership, never truly trusting each other, they embark on a journey through the ultimate darkness, searching for a truth that they know will mean their deaths.
Volume 1 contains the following episodes (1-5): "Maidens With Black Hands", "Daily Bread", "The Assassination Play", "The Sound of Waves" and "Les Soldats".

Everything Wrong with Anime - Paul_D
Noir contains everything wrong with anime today. Attempts at depth that are just juvenille confusion, lack of coherence in the storytelling, and female main characters who look to be under the age of 18 who are scantily clad. There is no reason to rent this over Cowboy Beebop.A slow-paced, but intriguing action series - Filbert
The slick female assassin story is practically a genre unto itself when it comes to Japanese anime. At first glance, Noir comes off as a knock off of La Femme Nikita (and it does owe a lot to that movie's influence), but it does develop its own style and pace as the series progresses. Its worth watching at least the first two DVD's (about 8 episodes) before passing judgement because it seems to move at a slow pace at first with a lot of quiet discourse between the main characters. But each episode does reveal a small piece of what does turn out to be an intriguing mystery of what binds the two female assassins together. And the action is well animated and offers some unique ways of, well, "disposing" of people, which just goes to show you how coolly deadly the two women are. Interestingly, the killings are presented with very little if any blood, indeed most of the actual "deaths" take place off camera. However, there is no mistake about the violence, seen or unseen, so this is not for the younger group at all. For those looking for a slower paced but interesting action series, this is well worth the effort to watch.
