Caprica: Season 1 - Volume 1 (Caprica: Season 1.0)
The Battlestar Galactica phenomenon continues with this undeniably compelling look at where the real conflict between humans and Cylons began, in a vibrant world remarkably like our own: Caprica. Fifty-eight years before Battlestar takes off, two powerful families - the Graystones and the Adamas - find their destinies irrevocably intertwined after a devastating explosion. As the two houses both struggle with the line where humanity ends and artificial intelligence - the Cylon race - begins, they'll face off in a battlefield or corporate conspiracy, murder, sexual politics and family backbiting. From executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick comes this highly anticipated prequel starring Golden Globe nominee Eric Stoltz and Esai Morales and presented in uninterrupted Dolby 5.1 surround sound. Critics call it "One of the Best Shows on Television" (Television Without Pity).

This first episode of the series sets up a bunch of cliched, two-dimensional plot lines and characters that remind me of the first Star Trek in their predictability. Slow. Seems low-budget, filmed in Vancouver. It answers the question "where did the Cylons come from" but it wasn't very interesting. I certainly won't be renting any more episodes.Great show - IPSC_DVC
For those at all familiar with the reimagined BSG (Battlestar: Galactica) univerise, this show provides great backstory on how the Cylons came to be. It was cancelled after one season by the SyFy network, who replaced it with WWE wrestling. Visionary show terminated by a network with no vision at all.
Themes of religion, terrorism, virtual reality, AI, organized crime, corruption are all explored.
The VR environment (V-world) depecited in some episodes, accessed by "holobands", is quite intriguing.
Great acting throughout from Esai Morales, Sasha Roiz, and Canadian Magda Apanowicz. Great eye candy with Alessandra Torresani who also does a decent job. Stoltz is great in some episodes and wooden in others.
Definitely worth viewing, and at least you know that you only have to dedicate less than 16 hours to view the entire series.
