Republic of Doyle: Season 1
Trouble is his business. And business is good.
Meet Jake Doyle - rogue, charmer, drinker, brawler, emotionally immature and unavailable... and the handsome, P.I. hero of Republic of Doyle.
Doyle (Allan Hawco, ZOS: Zone of Separation, H2O) is a new breed of private investigator, cracking cases - and the occasional head - in the contemporary St. John's, Newfoundland. His hometown is changing in a big way, transforming from a small seaport to a booming oil town., and where there's cash, there's trash - and lots of it. With his father/partner-in-crime-solving, Malachy Doyle (Sean McGinley, Michael Collins, Braveheart), by his side, Jake is ready to take on whatever mystery turns up on the Doyle doorstep.

It is nice to see that the CBC can produce great quality programs. Doyle is one example. The show is well written with great plots and excellent characters. It is both a comedy and a drama rolled into one. Everyone in the family enjoys it Wednesday evenings. I am glad to see it is being renewed for another season. One of my favorite series - YTREWQ
Republic of Doyle is an excellent series, based in St. John's, Newfoundland. Great local shots of the city, the storylines are original & funny, and there is a good mix of action and drama. One of the CBC's better drama/comedies, and well worth renting.Great Fun From The Rock - Old_Video_Man
This is a must see series. The Doyles are private eyes, but it's not just another PI mystery series. You see fun, comedy, romance, action, and fantastic local scenery in each well written fast paced episode.
In their often minor cases, the whole family gets involved: father, son, and future step-mother. They are real people: down-to-earth, honest, reliable, and quirky. Rose (Lynda Boyd) is from Toronto, so she doesn't have the wonderful (and spot on) Newfoundland accent and figures of speech that the others do. And it's almost as if you've known each character for years.
This is a real comedy/drama series. You're in St. Johns relating to each story not just watching.
