The Walking Dead: Season 1
After waking from a coma in an abandoned hospital, police officer Rick Grimes finds the world he knew gone - ravaged by a zombie epidemic of apocalyptic proportions. Nearby, on the outskirts of Atlanta, a small encampment struggles to survive as 'the dead' stalk them at every turn. Can Rick and the others hold onto their humanity as they fight to live in this terrifying new world? And, amidst dire conditions and personal rivalries, will they ultimately survive one another? AMC’s The Walking Dead is an epic, survival adventure series from the director of The Shawshank Redemption and the producer of The Terminator and Aliens.

I'm a big horror fan and count Romero's Dawn Of The Dead as one of my favourite horror films, so I feel more qualified than a non-horror-loving fan to pipe in here.
The series is entertaining with some interesting twists and cliffhangers and there are a some good "jump out of your seat" moments.
But so far the acting is hit and miss. Many characters feel stock and one-dimensional (the angry bigoted hick, the caring mom, the thoughtful older guy, etc.) and when I'm watching the series I often feel like I'm watching "acting" -- not immersed in the world of the story.
I'd like to see where the story goes, however, and the lead character does a better than average job.
Not compelling enough for me but entertaining and a good time-waster.Lots of Zombies to destroy! but so much more! - ShowBill1
The series is outstanding! Fans of the horror or “Zombie” type films will absolutely love this, but so will almost everyone else! The director is Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption) and he does a terrific job on this series, which was based on the graphic novels of the same title. There is a large ensemble of lesser known, but talented actors who are forced to live and fight together, in order to survive in a strange new world. (Very much like’ Lost’)
Our (initial) lead character (a deputy sheriff) wakes from a coma, and finds the world in ultimate turmoil. There are countless abandoned and wrecked vehicles and military equipment everywhere in sight. There are covered bodies stacked everywhere. Buildings are empty; or are they? His sets out to find his wife and son. He soon discovers he is not alone and there are monsters (Zombies) everywhere. He meets up with some of the other (very few) survivors and they make their way towards the nearest large (safer?) city, Atlanta. That’s all I will reveal, but ahead lie action, drama and suspense that will thrill and entertain you.
This is not just another apocalyptic zombie drama! There is lots of gore and the effects are top notch, to satisfy all horror fans. There are some incredibly graphic scenes! There is: however, a lot more emphasis on the characters than we get in a typical “Grind house” zombie film. We get to care a lot more for these characters. This is a story about human survival, under the worst possible scenario. I couldn’t help wondering, “What would I (we) do in this situation?”
This is an exiting, well-done, well acted, suspense filled drama series that I am sure you will enjoy. There are only six episodes in Season 1 and it will leave you wanting more. A very strong 4 ½ Stars HIGHLY recommended!Even my Zombie Phobic Wife Watched This! - ArcAngelMD
AMC's production of The Walking Dead is shockingly good TV. Cable continues to stretch the limits of what was considered typical TV viewing and produces what is likely there best product to date.
The atmosphere of the show takes a dramatic start right from the beginning and basically stays in high gear for an entire season. This doesn't mean it is short on story. Instead we get good conflict and characterization that is well played by the ensemble cast.
Diverting from the comic book when appropriate (for the sake of the medium) this will offer some unique twists for those who are familiar with the story line. Parts will seem familiar to you (e.g., 28 Days Later), but that is really just the set up and from there we get into something a bit more original and intense.
The Walking Dead was a big hit. We're bound to get a few seasons of it and the TV landscape is all the better for it. Zip It!
