Excellent series. It brings back memories of when I was a secretary working for an ad agency in NYC in the 60's. Am now waiting for disc 4 for season 4 and it's as interesting, intriguing and enjoyable as the first. This season seems to be grittier: the characters' personalities are somehow tougher but this does not in any way detract from it. A series not to be missed.Madmen: Season 4 DIsc 2 - Vaila
Even though I was a young working woman during this era, I don't remember it quite this way. I was aware of the male/female inequality as I was a 'victim' of the times, but I don't remember the 'skirt chasing' to the degree it is being shown in these discs. Still, it doesn't mean it didn't happen that way. My eyes have been opened! I love the series & wish it would never end. The authenticity of the clothes, hair, decor, and the mentality is mind blowing.Back to the daily grind. - cathyottawa
Mad Men's third season was spent largely outside the office, but with a season three cliffhanger that had Don and the gang jumping ship to form their own firm, its no surprise the show has shifted again to take us back to work.
We find that starting a new firm is no picnic, and the boys scramble to make clients happy and drum up new business.
If last season was Betty's turn for some character development, season four is Peggy's time to shine. She has come full circle, from mousy, unassuming secretary, to strong, independent working woman.
We also spend a lot more time with Don's daughter, Sally. She broke my heart more than once this season.
And we end with another cliffhanger of sorts. Not as big as season three's, but a surprising twist that sets up season five nicely.
This show just gets better and better with age. I hope they can keep it up. And with writing this strong, characters this well developed and compelling, and that great 60s backdrop, chances are they will.
