When schools become war zones and both sides start taking casualties, what then?
A vicious high school student is dead. A gang hit? An act of sudden rage? Or did a once-idealistic teacher finally snap? The issues and the tension hit home when Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, A Time To Kill) stars in 187, a gritty urban school thriller directed by Kevin Reynolds (Robin Hood - Prince Of Thieves). In one of his most powerful roles, Jackson plays dedicated science instructor Trevor Garfield, a man with a passion for learning. Garfield is skilled, smart, commited, the total package as a teacher. But he's also human. And what he confronts in a school turned increasingly into a battlefield may be more than he can bear. How Trevor copes makes 187 "gripping, high-octane entertainment" (Newhouse News Service).

O.K. Story - Lucky_Lou
I looked forward to watching this because Samuel Jackson was in it. The story at points seemed to drag on, but just as I was thinking of turning it off there was a thought that the plot was changing into something more. I'm glad I watched til the end. Not a great movie but it was o.k.A Decent Movie - Kodiak
Samuel L. Jackson was his usual capable self in this look at a troubled US school system. The view of the system was harsh, but there have been enough incidents in schools to suggest this could happen. The storyline was believable and the ending was a little unexpected. Overall I think it was worth the investment of time.Agenda But Samuel Was Good - Poustman
I have no acquaintance with the issues being examined by the movie, really, and so I can't say if that part was done well. I did find Samuel L. Jackson' acting enjoyable, and found the movie watchable overall. But it wasn't great, and really not even good.
Intense in some parts, dumb in others. I give it 3 stars, but maybe I'm being too kind.
