What a novel idea for a story. Everyone is looking for Harry James – the mob, the FBI, the Kirker County Sheriff’s Department. Only problem is they’re all chasing down the wrong guy. Boomer just wants to get home to his girl friend and propose marriage but a brief time out to do a Good Samaritan act by making “one simple easy phone call” unwillingly launches him into an action-packed mistake in identity caper. A Better Way to Die is a thoroughly entertaining movie that offers great action footage with lots of humour lurking in the background and frequently bubbling its way to the top.
Scott Wiper is a talented man. Not only did he star in the movie - he wrote and directed the piece. In this, his second feature film, he creates a story that loosely follows the formula of a “road trip” movie. I say loosely because the usual slap stick antics found in such movies are replaced here by great crime story action sequences laced with “bad guy” humour. We are thoroughly entertained as Boomer is dragged into one perilous situation after another.
This movie is packed with acting talent. Joe Pantoliano is priceless as an odd ball but determined one-armed PI. Wiper creates some marvellous humour surrounding the brief bonding that occurs between Flash (Pantoliano) and Boomer. Wayne Duvall is equally bizarre and humorous as a facially deformed telecommunications genius named Rifkin. Andre Braugher and Mo Gallini play the two primary bad guys and Lou Diamond Phillips the FBI agent leading the hunt. Mirjana Jokovic and Natasha Hendstridge, who exudes sex appeal, play girl friends to the missing Harry and our hero Boomer.
A Better Way to Die probably doesn’t belong on the A list but I would rank it high among B movies mainly for its fresh and unusual approach that should appeal to action fans who have a good sense of humour.A Better Way to Die - moviedude
I did't know what to expect with this movie as there was no review. Much to my surprise it was quite enjoyable. It had it all, good acting, lots of action and a plot that was unpredictable. Seems all movies with Lou Diamond Philips are always good. Rent it, you won't be disappointed.
