A Simple Plan
Sometimes Good People Do Evil Things.
The American Dream. In a gym bag. That's how three men size up what they've found in the snowy Minnesota woods. They've come across a downed plane with a rotting corpse inside...and over $4 million stuffed inside a duffel bag. Finders keepers? Maybe. But first they'll need a foolproof plan. So they and the wife of one of the men start out with a scheme that's perfect in its simplicity...and lethal in its miscalculation of the human heart. Mistrust, murder, intrigue - all are soon at work in this stark, twist-filled thriller.

A very special and uncompromising piece of work. Wrap up warm. - moviemonger
A Simple Plan turns out not to be so simple. Like a host of other movies, it begins with a simple "what if" question. In this case, the question is "What would you do if you found 4 million dollars in cash in a crashed plane"? The attraction for many of these movies-- at least the better ones-- is that they involve normal people with which we can identify. Then, when things go terribly wrong, as they usually do, we are disturbed, because we could see these things happening to us. In this regard, A Simple Plan succeeds, and for this reason alone it is worth watching. The simple theft, rationalized as a victimless crime, as far ranging and unanticipated consequences. Paxton does a fine job, and Thorton in particular is impecable. While the story is slightly unbelieveable at a few points, for the most part it is credible, largely due to the fine acting. The rural setting and demeanor of the characters led my wife to compare this to Fargo (a movie all of us greatly appreciated). Overall, this film is highly recommended if you are in the mood to watch an intelligent, well-acted, character-driven thriller.A Simple Plan: A Complex Message - TheShamus
While the movie, "A Simple Plan" may not be everyone's idea of a good time, it is a well crafted movie -- which successfully challenges the viewer to think, "What Would I Do"?
Simple small town people change when money is part of the equation.
I really enjoyed the movie from the standpoint that the motives of the characters were not "far fetched", but as time goes on, the trouble grows.
Part of the reason I would not give this 4 stars, is the fact that the movie does not really stay with you. The impact is no really there.
However ... it is a good movie if you like a drama, or a murder mystery. There are plot twists to keep things going.
Overall, a great movie.

A Simple Plan is a perfect movie. Equal part thriller and drama, Bill Paxton and Billy Bob Thorton give flawless performances.
The stillness and emptiness of the small town setting are well captured in the cinematography, while never overshadowing the characters and the feeling that you are in the story.
Bridget Fonda is admittedly not quite perfect, but she is solid enough not to crack that classification for this wonderful film.
